Art & Cocktails: Experience feminist topics in Pforzheim!

Pforzheim, Deutschland - Today, on June 13, 2025, an exhibition will open in A.K.T in Pforzheim, which focuses on women's questions: "Not your choice". With this first major exhibition of the year, a strong signal for equality and self -determination is sent. The opening takes place today at 7 p.m. and not only promises insights into the diverse works of twelve artists, but also a way to reflect on current social content.

The exhibition takes up the controversial statement "Your Body, My Choice" by Nick Fuentes, which caused a sensation in November 2024. "Not your choice" addresses challenges about feminist topics, self -determination and the visibility of women in society. Visitors invite video work, installations, photography, painting, print graphics and performative work to deal with critical questions. The artistic director Janusz Czech and Almut Benkert, the head of the creative industries department, will also offer special guided tours for school classes in order to convey the content in line with the child.

Art & Cocktails: A new event format

Another highlight of the exhibition is the new event format "Art & Cocktails", which will take place on Saturday, June 21, at 6 p.m. in the Café Roland. Participants: Inside, you can look forward to an exclusive tour of the exhibition, followed by the opportunity to enjoy three small cocktails or non-alcoholic alternatives as well as an antipasti plate. The price for this event experience is 25 euros, and registration is required under hello (at) caferoland.de.

The exhibition "Not Your Choice" will be shown by Friday, July 6, 2025. The opening times are on Fridays and Saturdays from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The A.K.T not only acts as an exhibition space, but as an interdisciplinary laboratory of the future, in which students of the Master's degree in Design & Future Making of the Pforzheim University of Applied Sciences research innovative questions in the Madlab.

historical context and social impact

feminist art has a long and significant story. In the 19th century, artists started defending themselves against the conventional gender roles in art. Names like Rosa Bonheur and Berthe Morisot stand for this first resistance. In the 1960s, artists such as Carolee Schneeman and Judy Chicago brought new perspectives to the art world by addressing sexuality, reproduction and the role of women. Also in the 21st century, artists such as Tracey Emin and Cindy Sherman continue the discourse and show how important the representation of women in art is. Despite the progress, there are challenges, since women are still underrepresented in the art world and it is time to illuminate this grievance.

The exhibition "Not Your Choice" not only wants to raise awareness of these topics, but also create a space for dialogue and reflection. At a time when feminist topics are gaining in importance, it is crucial to look at the equality of the sexes and to give new impulses for social discourses. With this exhibition, Pforzheim offers a platform for exchange and inspiration that goes beyond art.
