DFB Cup: Central German teams in the duel-the current opponents are certain!

The anticipation for the DFB Cup increases: The draw of the first round for the 2025/26 season has produced exciting encounters. Six teams from Central German regions are there, including well -known clubs such as Lok Leipzig, Dynamo Dresden and RB Leipzig. The matches take place from August 15th to 18, 2025, and the fans can look forward to gripping duels. As reports MDR, the pairings have already been determined.

Lok Leipzig meets Schalke 04 in a real classic, while Dynamo Dresden receives FSV Mainz 05. Hallesche FC also has to compete with FC Augsburg. ZFC Meuselwitz will welcome the Karlsruher SC and the 1. FC Magdeburg is making its way to the 1st FC Saarbrücken. RB Leipzig has drawn a strikable opponent with SV Sandhausen, which coach Olaf Jansen sees in his announcements.

Cup fever in the first round

The DFB Cup is not only a platform for the big names of football, but also offers small clubs the chance to step on the big stage. The draw takes place according to a two-pin system. In the "amateur" pot there are four last placed second division teams, the best teams in the 3. League and 24 state cup winners. The 18 Bundesliga clubs and 14 best-placed clubs in the second Bundesliga frolic in the "professional" pot. The FUPA emphasizes that all teams in amateur pots have a grandiose plus for the smaller clubs!

Defender of the Cup, VfB Stuttgart, as well as the German champion, Bayern Munich, will only start the competition a little later: They will play on August 16 in the Franz Beckenbauer Cup. Both teams then only get into the first round on August 26th.

Profits from ticket sales and advertising also go to the calculation of the clubs, with 10% being forwarded to the DFB.
