CSD 2025 in Pforzheim: Celebration in the shadow of the counter -demonstration!

On Saturday, June 14, 2025, around 1,000 people celebrated the Christopher Street Day (CSD) in Pforzheim. Under the motto "Don’t Be quiet, be a riot - solidarity against hate", the participants found themselves on the marketplace to demonstrate for an open and diverse life. This year the CSD was particularly important, since it took place for the third time in Pforzheim and for the first time the mayor Tobias Volle spoke to the event, such as swr reported.

The mood was exuberant, but in the background there was displeasure. A right -wing extremist counter demo was announced by the “Sturm Trupp Süd” group. This event, which took place at the same time and in the immediate vicinity of the CSD, was to be a "demonstration for traditional values and against the early sexualization of our children" bnn . Due to the impending risks, additional safety precautions were taken to protect the participants of the CSD. Claudia Jancura, the organizer of the CSD, had requested extra more security staff, which drove the costs up.

a sign against discrimination

The CSD is not only a colorful festival, but also a significant commemoration day that is reminiscent of the 1969 uprising in the Christopher Street in New York. This uprising is the starting point for the global emancipation movement of the LGBTQ+community. While demonstrated against discrimination and exclusion, many of the active concerns are worried about the increasing violence against lesbians and gays. The CSD in Pforzheim therefore expressly sets a sign of diversity and equality and tries to promote an open society, such as the Education emphasized.

The demo train started at 12 p.m. on the market square and led the participants through the city. A varied stage program followed from 2 p.m., in which Drag Queens like Vicky Jenner and Gloria Diamond appeared. DJ Robert Sun and rapper Finna also created a good atmosphere until late in the evening. Despite the safety precautions, the overall atmosphere remained peaceful. The organizers and participants did not miss the joy of celebrating and made it clear that solidarity and acceptance are not a matter of course, but are fundamental rights for which it is worth fighting.

ppolitical support and challenges

Unfortunately, Mayor Peter Boch (CDU) was not present because he had canceled his participation. Nevertheless, political supporters such as the Pforzheimer SPD member of the Bundestag Katja Mast and CDU member of the Bundestag Gunther Krichbaum found themselves to show their solidarity with the CSD. Despite the committed support, the CSD must expect a deficit of 2,000 euros due to the additional security measures.

The activities impressively show how important the CSD is as a platform for queer activism and social changes. Organizer Claudia Jancura and her fellow campaigners: Inside, it is strong for a colorful and diverse society in which the rights of all people are respected and promoted. In view of the critical situation around rights demonstrations, the CSD remains an essential part of the fight against discrimination.
