Bitter news for Schwäbisch Gmünd: Bosch strokes over 1,700 jobs!
In the Schwäbisch Gmünder Werk by Bosch, there are profound changes. The plan originally provided to reduce around 750 jobs by the end of 2026. But these approaches have been revised, and the current strategy is referred to as the "extremely heavy blow" for the city and all of Baden-Württemberg. Mayor Richard Arnold was concerned about the effects that the reduction of more than a third of the currently 3,600 employees on the local economy, especially in trade and gastronomy. Gmünder daily mail want to reduce to only 1,700.
The company justifies this step with high costs and the increased competitive pressure in the industry. Again and again it is mentioned that the auto industry is currently presenting crumbling numbers and that Bosch has generated losses in the billion dollar sector in recent years. Parts of the production are to be relocated to Maklár, Hungary, where the work is expanded for the control company for commercial vehicle control. Part of the functions are shifted to Abstatt to increase the company's efficiency.
socially acceptable dismantling
However, good news comes in the form of socially acceptable measures: The planned job cancellations should not be carried out by operating terminations by the end of 2028.
Part of the workforce benefits from this regulation, while Bosch also founds a transfer company and introduces a volunteer program. This could help many employees to master the transition to new employment relationships more easily. SWR reports on the results between IG Metall, works council and the Bosch leaders Rounds did not come about.
The planned reduction of 1,150 positions in Schwäbisch Gmünd is therefore somewhat lower than the originally desired 1,300, such as the Swabian holds. The job loss is summarized in a package of measures to realign the location.
In view of the fact that the location should continue to play an important role in Bosch's steering division in the future, there is hope that Schwäbisch Gmünd will find back where it was before the current exceptional situations: in the profit zone. For many employees, however, it remains uncertain how the situation will develop by 2030 - and whether their jobs will actually remain secured.
