Heidenheim receives 840,000 euros for Brenzbahn expansion and new cultural projects!
In the district of Heidenheim there is movement in terms of Brenzbahn! As the Heidenheimer Zeitung , the expansion of the railway line is funded with 840,000 euros. Originally, these funds were planned for the Alb-Donau district, but due to a unanimous decision by the district council, the district of Heidenheim will now benefit, despite additional costs.
The Brenzbahn, which connects Ulm and Aalen, is of great importance for the East Württemberg and Donau-Schiller region. The route is currently single -track and not electrified and reaches capacity limits. This is one reason why the district of Heidenheim and its neighboring regions work for a comprehensive expansion and electrification. Project manager Ralf Jugelt presented the plans in the district council and met with approval, but only on the basis of the state and the partner districts financially.
expansion plans on the table
The specific plans provide for various expansion packages. According to the Swabian Post are laced three packages. For example, package I could bring the IRE line from Aalen to Ulm to an hourly time, while Package II provides for an hourly S-Bahn line of Aalen-Heidenheim. The third package should take over the electrification of the route.
The total costs for the overall project amount to around 620 million euros. Different subsidies should be observed here: The federal government could cover up to 75 % of the infrastructure costs, while the country would bear around 57.5 % of the remaining expenses. This could bring great relief for the regional partner groups, which, however, still have to negotiate. The district of Heidenheim is ready to participate in the planning costs, provided that the other partners also confess color, such as Baden-Württemberg reported.
a lifeline in rail traffic
In the past few years, the Brenzbahn has requested numerous improvements, and the politicians agree: this train is a lifeline for rail passenger traffic. Winfried Hermann, Minister of Transport of Baden-Württemberg, emphasizes the need for electrification and calls the Brenzbahn an important structural project. "It should not only be modernized, but also more fully expanded," says Hermann. Among other things, additional regional trains between Aalen and Heidenheim and an hourly express connection between Ulm and Aalen are planned, which would significantly improve the transport offer.
A quick implementation is made more difficult by various "brake blocks". Different opinions among the project partners are often loud, as recently in the . Here, some counties could question financial participation, in particular the Alb-Donau district, which is not planning any investments in the electrification. It remains to be seen how the conversations and negotiations develop.
On the agenda of the district council, there are other exciting topics, including the restoration of the towers of the Brezer Galluskirche, the concerts in the Heidenheimer Brenzpark and the future of the Bergbadfestival in Giengen.
