Laupheim celebrates: 78-year-old travels from Colombia to the local festival!

In the middle of colorful stands and festive music, numerous people draw every year for the local festival in Laupheim. This year Herbert Fischbach, 78 years old, is also part of the party. Born and raised in Laupheim, he has lived in Arbeláez, Colombia, about 100 kilometers south of Bogotá for over 20 years. What means a return to the past for him is more than just a visit: "I have only missed a children's and home festival since I moved," he says.

The local festival, which many are perceived by many as a highlight in the annual calendar, offers Fischbach the opportunity to meet family, friends and old acquaintances. The nostalgic memories of his childhood are closely connected to the festival. "Carousels, shooting stalls and the ship swing - I loved all of this as a boy," enthuses Fischbach.

diverse program highlights

His visit to Germany falls on a tightly planned program. A highlight for visitors is the opening of the exhibition, followed by a parade concert and a traditional morning pint. Historical camp life and a pageant provide colorful entertainment. Fischbach plans to connect with many of his compatriots and is particularly looking forward to a ride on the Ferris wheel to see Laupheim from a bird's eye view. "A lot has changed, but the atmosphere remains the same," he says.

His connection to Laupheim is unbroken. As a former city soldier, he was once active in the move. "My father was a bunch of Baltringer, I am proud of this tradition," continued Fischbach. The local festival is more than celebration for him, it is an annual family reunion in which he can bring old times to life.

memories and new traditions

The roots of German festivals lie deep in the tradition, and the local festival is no exception. As emphasized on language school-aktiv.de, such festivals are a wonderful way to maintain regional customs and show community. "It is also a time to celebrate with others and network over the years," says Fischbach.

Although he spends most of the year in Colombia, his love for Laupheim is unbroken. "I have traveled to many continents, but my roots stay here. I once dreamed of a life in the Canary Islands, but the home festival pulls me back again and again," he adds.

This year the local festival will also be a place to come together and celebrate traditions. Even if Fischbach is going to things more calmly today, the joy of the celebrations and the encounters is noticeable. The way back to Germany, which lasts about 13 hours, is always a trip full of anticipation for him. He has a good hand when planning his visit in the sign of love of home.
