Tree care in the Rhein-Neckar district: safety and nature in focus!

In the Rhein-Neckar district it is time again for tree care. With the arrival of autumn and the cooler winter months, work begins with the aim of both improving road safety and maintaining the ecological functions of the roadsides. How Metropolitan Journal reports, the Office for Road and Cycle Path Construction carries out the pruning of hedges and bushes along federal, state and district roads.

The trees on the side of the road have several functions: They offer privacy, glare and wind protection, secure embankments and contribute to the integration into the landscape. At the same time, they serve as a habitat for birds, small mammals and amphibians and support biotope networking. Only damaged or traffic-threatening plants are removed. Pruning takes place when the clearance profile is impaired.

Cooperation with nature conservation authorities

The planned measures will be closely coordinated with the Lower Nature Conservation Authority to ensure that the work is carried out in accordance with nature conservation regulations. State-of-the-art equipment such as wood excavators, felling cranes and chainsaws are used in these projects. The cuttings are chopped directly on site and used in the form of wood chips.

According to the requirements of the Federal Nature Conservation Act, such work may only take place between the beginning of October and the end of February. All road users are therefore called upon to pay particular attention to the affected road sections. If necessary, construction site traffic lights are installed to safely regulate traffic flow. Short-term closures may also have to be accepted.

Duration of the work

The tree care work is expected to last until the end of February 2026. For residents and road users, this means a phase of increased attention and possibly diversions in the region. Those responsible are aware of the impact on traffic and will do everything in their power to keep the nuisance for citizens as low as possible.

These measures are not only important for traffic safety, but also an important contribution to preserving biodiversity and ecological stability in the region. After all, nature is the focus in the Rhein-Neckar district, and with the right care concept people can continue to appreciate it.
