Protest against Veteran Day in Mannheim: Focus on militarism!

Mannheim, Deutschland - in Mannheim on Sunday, June 15, 2025, the first veteran day took place in which attention should be drawn to the concerns of veterans. However, there were strong protests for this occasion, which was decided by the Bundestag in April 2024. According to Kommunalinfo-mannheim.de gathered numerous activists on the Toulonplatz to demonstrate against the event. The protest actions started at 1 p.m. and took place directly opposite the celebrations for the veteran day.

The protests were organized by an alliance that includes the German Peace Society - United War Service and the Party DIE LINKE. With various speeches, the activists pointed out the dangers of militarization of society. A central concern of the alliance is to counter the veteran day as part of a new militaristic culture. Borussia Fehrenbach, the spokesman for the alliance, emphasized that the veteran day could not be in harmony with the peace work.

With impressive symbols such as the awarding of orders to the conscientious objector of the German peace society and loud protest slogans such as "No human, no cent of the Bundeswehr", the demonstrators made a clear sign. In addition to transparent with inscriptions such as "refusing. Desert. Saboting", the membership of the Mannheim Mayor Christian Specht in the "Mayors for Peace" network was also critically discussed.

The demonstration itself started around 2:30 p.m. with a route that led past the town hall over the market square to Paradeplatz. The great interest in the protesting campaigns is also due to the nationwide efforts of the anti-militaristic action network, which would like to expose the veteran day as a "NaziPrepper Day". According to Indymedia Plan activists nationwide in several cities to make the public aware of the questionable role of veterans' associations.
