Adventure, variety and female power: Start castle festival today!
On Saturday evening it was finally time: The premiere of this year's Burg Festival in 2025 at Freudenburg attracted around 400 visitors. The staging of Jules Verne's classic "In 80 days around the world", which was edited by Jan-Markus Dieckmann, was shown. This performance not only promises exciting adventures, but also addresses central human issues such as freedom, equality and justice. At this event, amateur actors from different age groups are used, which gives the staging a special touch.
The patron of the Festival, Dr. Wolfgang Reinhart, praised the importance of the castle festival for the community and its tradition. In the processing of Dieckmann, the female roles were reinterpreted to present emancipatory life paths. The main character Phileas Fogg (represented by Patrick Karch), who dares a daring undertaking, plays on stage: he sets half of his fortune to circle the earth in 80 days. His loyal servant Jean Passepartout (Aaron Scheiber) accompanies him on his trip.

The exciting journey leads Fogg through various exotic countries, including Egypt, India, Hong Kong and the USA. Here he meets the Indian beauty Miss Aouda (Nina Hoff), who joins her adventure. But not everything goes without obstacles: Inspector Emmeline Fix (Katrin Nitz) suspects evil things and makes fogg difficult life. The staging also uses circus elements, which also underlines the drama of history and makes a special experience for the audience.
The performances take place on Free Days and Saturdays from 8:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. until July 5, 2025, including a 30-minute break. The enthusiasm for this event is not only reflected in the voices of the audience, but also in the planning of other ideas that are promising. The Freudenberg version of "In 80 days around the world" represents another highlight of the castle festival and is part of a number of dramatic implementations of great literary works, after adaptations by Oscar Wilde and Victor Hugo.
