Tent camp of the Bad Rappenau youth fire brigade: pure adventure and team spirit!

This year's camp of the Bad Rappenau City Youth Fire Department took place from June 8th to 10th, 2025 at the “Am Eichbott” campsite in Leingarten. The weather was great on these days and 30 motivated children and young people between the ages of 10 and 17, supported by 13 carers, set off from the Bad Rappenau fire station to the camp site on Sunday afternoon, full of anticipation for the coming days.

The first activities started as soon as we arrived: we put up the tent together, which was not only important for overnight stays, but also promoted the teamwork of the participants. After a hearty dinner, the day was rounded off with an exciting torchlight hike, where the romance of the campfire came to fruition.

A day full of action and knowledge

Monday was all about knowledge and play. The youth fire brigade visited the Leingarten volunteer fire brigade, where an exciting insight into the work of the fire brigade was given with a tour of the building and a tour of the various emergency vehicles. In the afternoon, things got more sporting: a baseball tournament with six mixed teams was held, which stimulated the competitive spirit.

The end of the day took place around the campfire. Here we played entertaining “1, 2 or 3” quizzes, baked stick bread and sang – an all-round successful evening that further strengthened solidarity.

Team spirit and challenges

The wake-up campaign started on Tuesday morning, followed by a hearty breakfast before the camp Olympics began. Teamwork, skill and endurance could be demonstrated here. Such an event could easily be based on Christian Patzelt's ideas Fire department magazine where numerous games are suggested for the youth fire brigade, which could also be used at the camp. The Camp Olympics offered variety and challenges – exactly what was needed to keep the kids entertained.

After lunch it was time to clean up and take down the tents. The camp concluded with the exciting field game “Capture the Flag”, in which the participants had to demonstrate their strategic skills and teamwork.

In the afternoon the parents picked up their children. At the farewell, thanks were expressed to all participants and the support team for the excellent organization of the camp. The anticipation for the next camp is already great and the participants will remember the experiences of the past few days for a long time. It turns out that the connection to the fire department and the team spirit grow far beyond the holiday camp experiences.

All in all, the camp was a complete success, in which not only firefighting knowledge was imparted, but also friendships were made and fun was the top priority. Like the Gedern youth fire department last year, which had a similar positive experience, such events are more popular than ever.
