Plenum on neurodiversity: exchange for affected students in HD!

On Monday, June 23, 2025, an important plenary meeting on the subject of neurodiversity will take place at 6:30 p.m. Organized by Autonomous abandoning presentation of the Stura are cordially invited, in particular affected students from the University of Heidelberg. The meeting is held in the seminar room A on the ground floor of the mathematics or alternatively online via zoom.

What exactly is it? Neurodiversity is a concept that describes the different ways of how people experience their environment and interpersonal interactions. It includes a number of impairments such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, and emotional disorders, some of which are only shown in adulthood. It is therefore all the more important that students with neurodive backgrounds get the support they need. The regular meetings that take place every two weeks serve to exchange ideas and work on projects to improve accessibility at the university.

support offers for students

The university offers numerous options for how affected students can benefit from support. In this way you can apply for a disadvantage compensation, which is done directly at the responsible examination office or the examination management. It is advisable to take care of these formalities in good time to avoid possible disadvantages in exams. For example, information can be obtained from the team for inclusive study or the representative for disabled and chronically ill students, such as unify.uni-heidelberg.de reported.

For students with specific needs, such as dyslexia or ad (h) s, there is tailor -made support. For example, students with dyslexia sometimes need up to 50% more time for text processing, which can be taken into account in exams. Teachers also support disadvantage compensation measures, such as more time for exams or the conversion of written into oral exams, as the University of Trier shows.

tackle together

Another concern of the plenary series is to reduce prejudices. Prejudices and stigmatizations that neurodive students often experience often tighten the challenges in everyday study. An open dialogue can help create a better understanding of the different forms of neurodiversity and to promote a respectful atmosphere. The students should feel encouraged to share their experiences and work together on solutions.

This plenary meeting is used to share the chance to share knowledge and illuminate solutions in order to sustainably improve the situation of neurodive students at Heidelberg University. Everyone is invited to contribute their voice - because together you can often solve a much bigger problem!

Further information and the possibility of contacting advice centers, for example, offers the platform of the University of Trier . It is clear: if we dismantle barriers, we open the doors for better educational opportunities for everyone.
